How To Maintain Your Home Plumbing System ?
Home improvement and maintenance is very essential. You need to look after every aspect of your home. Everything requires regular maintenance in order to work efficiently for years and home plumbing system is one of the most important aspects of your home that requires proper care. Here we will learn about things that should be checked after a fixed time.
When you think of your plumbing system, you need to first realize the number of appliances and pipes that are included in the system. This includes plumbing system that operates toilets, sinks, showers, bathtubs as well as laundry facilities in your home for your washer, utility sinks and drains.
Best method to check the proper working of a faucet or a shower head is to check their water flow. If you find the pressure to be same as before then there is nothing to worry about. But if it is less than before then it shows that either something is trapped in your faucet/shower head or in the water supply pipes.
Checking drain blockage is very important while checking your plumbing system. Speed of water flow through your drain indicates that there is any blockage in the drain or not. If speed is less then it shows that there is any clog in the drain. Formation of bubbles during draining also show that there is some problem. Check leakage in handles and valves of all the faucets.
Flushing in toilet consumes a lot of water so check properly that your flush system is working fine or not and also check it against any leakage. Open the tank and check all the parts inside it.
Check if there are cracked tiles around the shower, sinks or near water pipes in the home. Loose or hollow tiles can be an indication that there is/was a leak around it. Also check whether the tub, sink or toilet caulking is in place or coming off.
Look into the burner chamber of your water heater. Check whether there are any flakes of rust inside the chamber or it is fine. Also check the flame of water heater. It should be blue in color with no signs of yellow in the flame. If you find a yellow color, this may mean that the jet needs a cleaning. You should drain the water heater to remove sediment that may have built up in it.
By running this checklist on an annual or bi-annual basis, you can check your home for plumbing problems or potential plumbing problems. If you will address these problems on a regular basis then you can prevent them from becoming worse. It will save money for you on the long run. Therefore, taking a few minutes to inspect your plumbing system is time well spent.
